Planning Commission recommends approval of King Road Mine Project
Press Release – April 30, 2011
Tarmac America received staff approval of the Special Exception Application from the Planning Commission during a public hearing on April 4. Final approval of the Application for the King Road Mine project will be considered at the Public Hearing before the Levy County Board of Commissioners on May 3.
The 4-1 vote by the Planning Commission came after several hours of presentations and comment from the audience, which lasted early into the morning of April 5.
“The recommendation of approval from the Planning Staff was very gratifying as it reflected the many hours staff had spent reviewing the plans for the King Road Mine,” said Jeff Harris, project/plant manager for the King Road Mine. “Their vote of approval supports the plans we have in place for the mine.”
Tarmac submitted its Special Exception application to Levy County last August, and has worked closely with officials from Levy County over the past several months to mitigate any concerns.
Tarmac anticipates construction on the King Road Mine to begin in 2012, following the receipt of the Army Corps of Engineers permit and the final approval from Levy County.
