Titan Cement, the parent company of Tarmac America, has been named one of the top 10 companies worldwide by Fortune magazine, which ranked firms based on their ability to attract, retain and nurture top talent.

Titan was ranked the 8th best company for developing leaders, behind corporate giants including IBM (ranked number one), Proctor and Gamble, General Mills, McDonalds and General Electric.

“We at Tarmac America have always appreciated Titan’s commitment to its employees, primarily its focus on developing leadership from within,” said Jeff Harris, plant manager for Tarmac’s King Road Mine project. “It’s exactly this type of business model we look forward to bringing to Levy County with the King Road Mine.”

In developing the rankings, Fortune magazine surveyed more than 500 international companies on their strategies of attracting, retaining, and nurturing talent. After in-depth analysis and interviews with key leaders at the companies, a team of judges from around the world helped rank the Top 10 global corporations.

In ranking Titan 8th overall, judges were impressed by Titan’s "Career Pre-heater," a one-year program for key personnel that offers more than 400 hours of training on technological and leadership skills, as well as counseling on how professionals should behave. The Top 10 ranking also took into account Titan’s Corporate Values, which include Corporate Social Responsibility and Integrity.

"We have a very strongly articulated value system which we use as a basis for evaluating not only people but also the way we do business in our day to day operation," said Titan CEO Dimitri Papalexopoulos.

Headquartered in Athens, Greece, Titan employs more than 6,000 people across the world, including 1,000 here in Florida.
