Mine Will Bring Jobs
The Gainesville Sun – March 28, 2008

Mine will bring jobs
The limestone mine Tarmac America is planning in Levy County is a much-needed project in this part of Florida. A regional industry such as rock mining — a clean industry — provides jobs and adds to the tax base. It should be encouraged, especially in a time of recession.
Unemployment is skyrocketing, up 20-30 percent since last year in the neighboring counties that would benefit most. Hundreds of residents are looking for work. If rural communities in Levy County and elsewhere want to keep young people in the community instead of losing them to the bigger centers of population, we have to do something about the lack of job opportunities.
On top of the economic boost from a new company in the region, Tarmac has plans to monitor the environment, take care of wetlands and do even more to meet the rigorous permitting requirements at the local, state and federal level. To reject a project like Tarmac America's King Road Mine sends a bad message. This is no time to discourage people from investing in our region.
